Applications Guide
If you'd like to apply to direct a play, please send us the following (in either electronic form to
our Artistic Director
,
or a hard copy to
Matthew Clayton's pigeonhole in Pembroke College):
- A full copy of the play (if appropriate) or, if you're applying with a devised piece/work in progress, a summary of the piece and any available excerpts
- A max 200 word description of the play's plot
- Why you want to direct it, and why you think people will want to watch it!
- Design points: How you plan on staging it in your first-choice venue, details on what the costume/set/lighting/sound design will be like (any sketches or examples welcome!)
- Publicity info: How you would publicise the production and any design ideas (whilst, in the actual production, such responsibilities will most likely fall to a role other than producer, it's good to see some thoughts regarding this area)
- Rehearsals: How you'll run rehearsals - what techniques or methods you might use, how you'll structure rehearsals, how much time you think will have to be dedicated to rehearsals.
- Budget: Consider the cost of: rights, publicity, costume, set, sound rights if you're using any copyrighted music. We normally advise productions to estimate £150.00 for publicity; a rights quote can be obtained by either the publisher or an agent mentioned in any playscript. Contact Oli Rew, our Treasurer
if you need help putting a budget together.
- Any previous experience you think will help you to direct this play
The most important thing is to use your application to give us the clearest idea possible of what your production will ultimately be like!
Email Matthew (Artistic Director) with any questions about applying.
