The current committee have come up with some ambitious development schemes for the society… watch this space!
First up is the much needed renovation of our college venue, Pembroke New Cellars (described in a recent review as ‘a corporate dungeon’). We were spurred on to clamour for change and our wish list includes: a new entrance out the back of Foundress Court, black walls with mirrors along the back wall and black curtains which can be drawn across the whole room, a new (black!) floor and finally for the telephone box opposite to be converted into a ticket/ice cream kiosk. We hope, with the help of Pembroke College, to get these renovations completed this year.
We are considering a Director-in-Residence scheme, where an up and coming director would live in Pembroke for a term, putting on shows, giving workshops etc. He or she might particularly help us to make the best use of the New Cellars space with innovative and experimental productions.
A newsletter containing reports and reviews of recent shows as well as updates on new plans will be issued to all alumni in June and December. The June issue would cover the Black Tie Smoker, Annual Dinner and May Week show, with the December issue including info on the Japan Tour and Christmas Panto, and much more of course! Alumni will also be able to respond with news of any theatrical schemes they are involved with as well ideas for the society or just an update on where they’ve ended up after Pembroke Players! This information might be included in the following issue.
